Note:Many of you may not agree with me but this is what I believe.....
How do we define an inventor? Most of us will say an inventor is a person who produce or contrive which is something previously unknown by the use of ingenuity or imagination. We all know Edison is the inventor of electric bulb; Bell is the inventor of telephone and many more. But how is it possible that no one else in the world was thinking about inventing a device like lamp or telephone except Edison or Bell.
Most of us think that Galileo is the inventor of telescope which is actually not true. A man named Hans Lipperhey invented the telescope. As soon as Galileo heard about the wondrous device coming out of the Netherlands, he was excited. He started constructing a telescope himself and he made great improvements in the technology and actually he was the first one to use it for astronomical purpose and therefore he is known as the Father of the Practical use of the telescope and should not be refer as the Father of Telescope.
Prandtl , professor at University of Gottingen, Germany is consider as the founder of modern fluid dynamics. Euler was his PhD student. Now during that time according to Germany University rule, a student can't be a professor at the same University as result after finishing his degree Euler went to Austria. When the Second World War broke out Euler went to U.S. After the war was over it was decided that America will take all the finish products. As a result America took home all the research paper, their works, instruments .Now the funny part,to know how much the German have developed in the field of fluid mechanics Euler was sent to interrogate Prandtl and he later took all the Prandtl's work along with him ,simply changed the method and as a result published in numerous number of paper.
There are many people who thinks the Wright brother are the inventor of airplane. As a matter of fact there were many people who spent their whole life in building a airplane even before Wright brothers thought of making an airplane. Langley was the first one to built aerodrome having a launching catapult on a house boat. Another great aeronautical engineer, Otto Liental who designed and flew the first successful glider in the history. He died while testing his glider when a temporary gust of wind brought his glider to a stall and finally it crashed to the ground. I firmly believe that had Lienthal lived, he would have beaten the Wright brothers to the punch. And how could we forget about the great visionary, Da Vinci who first the one to believe that human being can make an object which will help them to fly. He was the first one to built an ornitropter. We should understand that Rome was not built in one day. It is only after knowing the mistakes made by the people before them; they were successful in making one.
Many of us live in the wrong impression that Einstein became famous all by himself actually it was Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington,a British astrophysicist who made Einstein famous. He is the one, who is responsible for bringing Einstein into the lime light. Eddington wrote a number of articles which announced and explained Einstein's theory of relativity .He was the one who dare to challenge Newton's theory, he conducted an expedition to observe the Solar eclipse that provided one of the earliest confirmations of relativity, and he became known for his popular expositions and interpretations of the theory which in turn made Einstein famous .But sadly enough most of the people don't know this.
When Newton was the head of the Royal Society of Science, he used to edit and modify all the papers written by other researchers and as a consequence his name was added in those papers, in this way he had published many paper in his name.
There are in numerable example of such type of cases which are mentioned above. There are many people who don't get proper recognition just because in science we only cheer and applause for those who can first publish their research .It is like a rat race and the scientific paper are like treasures; everyone is trying to grab it first while forgetting the essence of science.

There are numerous other examples. The point is, to become famous, you need something extra. Thats were your marketing sense comes in use. Famous people have that extra edge ( in most of the cases, not all ).
ReplyDeleteSo, what's your point in getting involved in these controversies and such conspiracy theories(nothing is proven, so how can one believe it). Did something personal happen to you on similar lines?
ReplyDeletesometimes it is not possible to express your personal feeling publicly but you have the option to express it by citing facts from the history.
ReplyDeleteSaket, I will keep your words in mind when I will post my next one.
@Avick :: Something else comes to my mind - Its an excerpt from The Fountainhead
ReplyDelete"No creator was prompted by a desire to serve his brothers, for his brothers rejected the gift he offered and that gift destroyed the slothful routine of their lives. His truth was his only motive. His own truth, and his own work to achieve it in his own way. A symphony, a book, an engine, a philosophy, an airplane or a building—that was his goal and his life. Not those who heard, read, operated, believed, flew or inhabited the thing he had created. The creation, not its users. The creation, not the benefits others derived from it. The creation which gave form to his truth. He held his truth above all things and against all men."

Well there have been and always will be people who hog the limelight and others who remain in the shadows...How many persons really know Steve Jobs while everybody has probably heard of Bill Gates...But again there's a twist...Does this mean that Wozniak's any less happy or contented...The point is that different people have different expectations from life...Some revel in the attention while others prefer to remain away from it...
